CPAs FOR NONPROFITS
Our Mission
“In every service we perform and every nonprofit sector we work with, our goal is to make sure you understand what is needed to help your organization move forward. Since we only work with nonprofit organizations, everyone on the team is an expert in the everyday issues and challenges of your organization. We are here for you.”
Services
We perform financial and compliance audits including audits under the Uniform Guidance (Single Audits) and Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book audits). Our experience areas for single audits include the Departments of Education, Health & Human Services, HUD, Justice, Environmental Protection Agency, Treasury, Commerce, and Labor. We also perform audits based on additional compliance requirements including the Legal Services Corporation, the City of Philadelphia Subrecipient Audit Guide and program audits for the Pennsylvania Department of Community of Economic Development.
We are committed to performing these services efficiently with the use of our online project management system that keeps everyone informed about where the audit process stands and with the use of paperless auditing software. We identify potential risks relating to properly recognizing revenue, small staffs, management override of controls, and credit cards, to name a few. We work with management and Finance and Audit Committees to address concerns seen throughout the year. We approach our audits in a manner such that organization gain insight into their processes and make improvements to better understand their financial metrics and how they affect operations and the ability to communicate what is needed from funders.
Audited financial statements are not always required so we also provide reviews and compilations. A review is substantially less in scope than an audit and a compilation provides no level of assurance, however, both of these services benefit from an expert knowledge base about nonprofit organizations. There are new standards relating to these services so help us explore if this service level fits your needs.
We understand that often nonprofit organizations cannot afford a full-time CFO. With our specialized staff, we provide services that build on the basics of simply recording transactions. We use analytical tools and build off of the basic information in your accounting system to help you with:
Financial reporting
Budgeting and forecasting
Cash management
Financial metrics for management, Boards and funders
Board financial literacy
Accounting staff training
Benchmarking
We also provide accounting services through Intacct (www.intacct.com) and Quickbooks.
Forensic services investigate the fraud schemes that affect nonprofit organizations all too often. Internal audit services assist management and Board of Directors with risk management, improvement of critical processes and the efficient use of resources.
Tax exempt services include everything from the initial application for tax exempt status to re-institution of tax exempt status if lapsed. We provide the following:
Preparation of Form 990, 990PF and 990-T
Application for tax exempt status with Form 1023 or 1024
Sales tax exempt applications
State charitable registration filings
Re-institution of lapsed tax exempt status
